Story #48 - A Toast to Halloween!
This is arriving early because so many people are celebrating this evening
Please (safely) enjoy one of my favorite holidays of the year!
A Toast to Halloween
To ghoul and ghost we make a toast
Upon this Halloween
To knight and squire and wolf so dire
To heroes from the silver screen
To spider’s webs and haute celebs
Plus here and there a king
Through cold and wet the children jet
Dressed up as every frightening thing
And grownups too will do the do
At costume parties grand
Ironic memes and throwback screams
Or lavish costumes long since planned
So make your cheers to all your fears
Upon this Halloween
And spare some thanks for the many ranks
Of costumes not so often seen
For there are scarier things out there
Than some made-up banshee
Like soulless drugs and Nazi thugs
Who’d steal away your season’s glee
Plus guilt and shame and hate and blame
The breakup of close kin
All these are more scary than gore
Even zombies with melting skin
Thus give salute to fears acute
Upon this Halloween
Thank lucky stars those fears are ours
Make praise for every evil queen
Try not to fret and just forget
The problems all too real
That hold such sway each other day
Now swept aside by Halloween zeal
And take delight in terror’s night
That’s what this day is for
To make a place for dread’s embrace
’Tis that and nothing more
So here’s a toast to ghoul and ghost
Upon this Halloween
Let giddy screams enhance your dreams
A great distraction’s what this holiday has always been!
